Color 101

Basic color theory is a necessity for the amateur.
Selecting colors for a home is a difficult process. Understanding how colors
affect each other as well as the atmosphere of a room is essential information
whether you are applying a faux finish, just painting a wall, or selecting
furnishings. The focus of this course is an introduction to the world of
color. You will learn how to mix colors, select colors for a room, select
colors for adjacent rooms, and how different media affects color. Students will
receive personal color wheels and paint mixing guides.

Faux Finishing
101 1 day $145
Learning the foundation for the four main faux finishing techniques is very
important. Sponging, color washing, ragging, and dragging form the base
for most professional finishes. Faux Finishing 101
allows students to become familiar with the proper use of the basic tools of
faux finish techniques as well as surface preparation, and mixing of paint and
glazes. Students will produce four sample boards.

Advanced Finishes 1 day $145
Once you have mastered the basic techniques, you can
learn how to combine them along with some “trompe l’oeil” or “fool the eye”
techniques to produce finishes such as Peeling Plaster with Exposed Brick
and Faux Stone and Tile. This class also expands your knowledge of faux
finishing tools with the subtle look of Feather Duster painting.

Fantasy Finishes 1 day $145
Add to your portfolio with four exotic finishes from around the world! Learn
how to produce a quick and easy fantasy Italian marble, a wild African animal
hide finish, a Caribbean lime fresco finish, and an Indian textured metal look.

Stencils have come a long way in recent years and are extremely useful for all
kinds of applications. This class teaches everything from basic single layer
stenciling techniques and multi-layer theorem stenciling to cutting your own
stencil.

Introduction to Textural
Finishes 1 day $145
Textural finishes are becoming increasingly popular. This class
explores the use of readily available, and relatively inexpensive products to
achieve old world textured effects; and surprising new products to produce some
exciting, contemporary looks.

Decorative Concrete
Finishes

Decorative concrete is currently one of the hottest finishes!
Whether you want to rejuvenate old concrete floors or patios, or give your
laminate countertops a cool new look, discover some of the great new products
which are easy to use and amazingly versatile.

Advanced Skimstone

Once you have taken the basic Decorative Concrete or
Skimstone class, you can take this advanced class to create a beautiful inlayed
stone sample using Skimstone, a Modello stencil, glaze and metal leaf.

Venetian
Plaster 1 day $195
Venetian plaster is one of the
most beautiful finishes available. In this class we will
learn how to mix custom colors, the basics of how to properly apply the plaster,
embedded stencil, waxed finish, and metallic finish.

Tuscan Hills Mural
4 days $695
Learn the major elements of mural painting including various perspective
techniques, brushstroke work, and trompe l’oeil. The class will paint a mural
depicting a faux stone window overlooking a Tuscan hillside scene with a trompe
l’oeil wine bottle and glass sitting on the sill.
